fall!

it's been really nice here! we've been hanging out outside quite a bit.

cope has also gotten pretty excited for halloween because nana sent him all kinds of outfits that he's been wearing.

and he loves to hang out with dad and watch football.. that's ok with mom as long as laundry is getting done at the same time!!

my pal is taking after his daddy, grandaddy and great grandaddy and his is a huge georgia fan.. he can't quite say "bulldogs" yet, but i bet it will be his next word.

i'm just not sure...

cope is 8 months old now! he is so expressive and he sure lets us know what he’s thinking. one of the funniest things he does now is to be in between 2 emotions. he often can’t decide which is more important so he shows us both at one time!

crawling, fall and a new favorite sweater

my buddy is a crawling machine. he's fast. he is also getting to be adventurous and will explore rooms that we aren't in! he is so kind to pause for pics for his mama, though..

we were going to go to the pumpkin patch this weekend but it was hot outside so we just took some pics at home depot in the shade! this was saturday, the day mizzou got destroyed by texas.. but my pal is a true fan and he wore his mizzou black and gold proudly.

sunday i picked my pal up a new sweater at target. i was worried that it might be too small so we tried it on when we got home. well he could care less about the sweater but he LOVED the tag. he shook it and chewed on it and slid around on it while he crawled with it under his little paw. i felt guilty cutting it off! he put it on for work this morning and i'm pretty sure he had forgotten all about it; or at least i tell myself that!

as an aside... his solid food eating skills are better than dad would leave you to believe with this pic! but he still loves his milkers the best!

busy busy

my buddy has been a busy little guy! he got his first tooth last week and a 2nd is about to break through. he had his first fall off of the bed. i think that injured his dad worse than it did him, ha ha. he crawls so much he has started to wear holes in the tops of his socks.. and when we take off the socks, he gets really really dirty feet.
he is so much fun and we are having a ball with him.. more pics about stories soon! my memory card is en route from connecticut and we'll catch you up on our recent vacation.

our morning routine

every morning when i go to get cope up i walk in and say "good mooooorning" while it is still dark. then my pal starts breathing fast and loud in his "i'm excited" way and then i turn the light on. that is the start of every day. then we change our diaper, play, eat milkers, get washed off with a warm wash cloth, get our would-be chop chops brushed, and we get dressed. since my pal has become more mobile, he likes to explore a little bit, and our mornings haven't been the same since. now between each step i have to chase him down and/or save him from hurting himself. he tries to crawl off the edge of the bed repeatedly. he also loves to crawl away. most of the time he just keeps crawling, but sometimes, he crawls right back to his mama..

my first BIG boo boo (aka injury to the point of bleeding)

so i woke up at 4 am saturday to cope screaming bloody murder. he has done this one time before. it was a few months ago, and i went in and picked him up and he quieted down in one minute and then fell right back asleep. i assumed he was having a bad dream (no milkers to be found or maybe the jumperoo would no longer jump or all of his musical toys no longer played music or something like that). so anyway, saturday when it happened, i assumed the same thing. daddy woke up too and since we live in scorpionville, dad wanted to turn the light on and check for scorpions. so when i turned the light on i saw this....
of course my son was in this little outfit at the time. forgive me for not taking a picture of blood dribbling down his howling little chin, but my wits were not with me at the time.
so you are probably thinking "good thing she's a doctor.. she knew exactly what to do"... and believe it or not, i did, which is really shocking. the mom in me said "oh my gosh, he probably has idiopathic thrombotic thrombocytopenia or disseminated meningococcus and he's bleeding spontaneously from his gums! he did have a bit of a runny nose this week.. that's it. he's really really sick and we have to go to the ER right now". the doctor in me said "find the source of the blood. it always looks way worse than it actually is". it was sort of like the devil and the angel sitting on my shoulders in a weird way.. but it was the mommy me and the doctor me, both whispering in my ear. so i pried my sweet howling man's gums apart and indeed the source was a 2 mm cut on his upper frenulum, the little piece of skin that attaches the inside of the lip to the gums up in the little pocket that the two make above where teeth would be if he had any. so i rocked and loved and sang to my little toothless man and he fell back to sleep. i refused to put him in his crib until he was asleep because the source of all this commotion was the fact that the little guy stands up in his crib until he literally passes out, and i think he had woken up and was standing up chewing on his crib when he did this and bonked his little gums. so when it happened again today (2 mm scratch on the left upper gum), i was much more prepared. i have a feeling my fella has a lot more injuries in store for me over the years!
