my first BIG boo boo (aka injury to the point of bleeding)

so i woke up at 4 am saturday to cope screaming bloody murder. he has done this one time before. it was a few months ago, and i went in and picked him up and he quieted down in one minute and then fell right back asleep. i assumed he was having a bad dream (no milkers to be found or maybe the jumperoo would no longer jump or all of his musical toys no longer played music or something like that). so anyway, saturday when it happened, i assumed the same thing. daddy woke up too and since we live in scorpionville, dad wanted to turn the light on and check for scorpions. so when i turned the light on i saw this....
of course my son was in this little outfit at the time. forgive me for not taking a picture of blood dribbling down his howling little chin, but my wits were not with me at the time.
so you are probably thinking "good thing she's a doctor.. she knew exactly what to do"... and believe it or not, i did, which is really shocking. the mom in me said "oh my gosh, he probably has idiopathic thrombotic thrombocytopenia or disseminated meningococcus and he's bleeding spontaneously from his gums! he did have a bit of a runny nose this week.. that's it. he's really really sick and we have to go to the ER right now". the doctor in me said "find the source of the blood. it always looks way worse than it actually is". it was sort of like the devil and the angel sitting on my shoulders in a weird way.. but it was the mommy me and the doctor me, both whispering in my ear. so i pried my sweet howling man's gums apart and indeed the source was a 2 mm cut on his upper frenulum, the little piece of skin that attaches the inside of the lip to the gums up in the little pocket that the two make above where teeth would be if he had any. so i rocked and loved and sang to my little toothless man and he fell back to sleep. i refused to put him in his crib until he was asleep because the source of all this commotion was the fact that the little guy stands up in his crib until he literally passes out, and i think he had woken up and was standing up chewing on his crib when he did this and bonked his little gums. so when it happened again today (2 mm scratch on the left upper gum), i was much more prepared. i have a feeling my fella has a lot more injuries in store for me over the years!

Sorry about your injuries Little Buddy! Your dad looked like a battered child because he was rough and tough just like you. Glad mommy is a doctor and doesn't "freak out" at the sight of blood like your Nana did. Love and miss you all! Nana and Papa
